So this is my first time doing the
Creative Chaos post, but I thought it to be worthy this week. So last nite I had the privilege of leading worship in our youth service. This was not the first time I have had to, usually I just lead one of the few songs we do each week, but this week the girl that usually does it was gone, so I filled in. Usually I lead from acoustic and we do some old stand-bys, which works great. However, this week I decided to break out the electric and try to do a new song. I tried to get a rehearsal earlier in the week, but it seemed to not work out so much, so I thought, "you know, I think these guys can handle this". The song we learned, in literally a matter of minutes, was Lincoln Brewster's new single,
Today is the Day.
So once everybody showed up to practice before service, I said hey let's check out this new song, played it over the system, and then we played through it ourselves a few times with some chord charts I had to make because of the song being so new. It worked out great, the drum parts and chords are really simple and the melody and lyrics are awesome. In fact, it turned out to be one of the better songs in our set. So all in all, we broke up our pattern of acoustic-driven worship and plugged in some electricity, and also introduced a literally brand-new song.
I have to give all the honor to God, because when I first heard Brewster's new single, I thought that we could do it eventually. Then, I felt God was saying this week. So, naturally I wanted to have the rehearsal, but it kind of fell through and couldn't happen, then I ended up with some sinus trouble and was debating even going to church, but just like God, he took care of everything and it ended up going really well. Lesson learned: always trust in God, as elementary as that sounds, it proves difficult sometimes.
